Hi everyone! It's Lindsay here, from Crafting While Caffeinated Blog and YouTube Channel, and I am so excited to share today's video tutorial with you all. Ink blending is one of those techniques that I go to time and time again. It can be used for blending a background on a scene, adding shadow, creating a fun background with or without a stencil, and so much more! Today, I am sharing how I used ink blending to create a night sky on the background of my card, but I'm giving it a little twist by adding glitter for a starry night effect! Be sure to watch the full video tutorial below for all the details!

There are so many different ways to create a night sky on your handmade cards. By far my favorite and the quickest for me is ink blending. Any ink that you can blend with will work, but I personally love Distress Inks for this technique because of one specific property, their reaction with water! And because I use them so often, I have my favorites that I always reach for. The colors I like to use for ink blending a night sky are Chipped Sapphire, Seedless Preserves, and Black Soot. I also like to use my mini ink blending tool since I lay the color on pretty thick!
After blending the sky I sprinkled the panel with plain water and let it sit on the ink for a few seconds, then I blotted it up. This creating white spots that are all different sizes and create a starry effect without pulling out the acrylic paint. But I didn't stop there with this background. I also sprinkled the panel with Sheer Shimmer Spritz in Sparkle. This is a clear liquid that is PACKED with sparkle and adds a true starry night effect!
To finish this panel I used one of my favorite types of stamps from Crackerox & Suzy Stamps, a silhouette. Silhouette stamps are so versatile and are perfect for adding over your ink blended backgrounds! To get specific, I used the "City Scape" silhouette stamps and stamped it with Versafine Clair in Nocturne.
Crackerbox & Suzy Stamps also had the PERFECT sentiment for this card (which was the inspiration behind the entire design). I used the "Life Knocks You Down" sentiment and added it to the panel on a flag banner. I absolutely love the way this sentiment stamps pulled together the entire card!
I hope you all enjoyed a look at this video tutorial and how easy it is to use ink blending to create a quick night sky background! If you are interested in any of the supplies I used, you can find them all listed and linked down below. Until next time, happy crafting!!
