Mother's Day Rose

Hello and Welcome!  This is Shanna from Caffeinated Craftiness with another fun project featuring Crackerbox & Suzy Stamps!!

Mother's Day is just around the corner, and I have 4 fabulous mothers in my life to create cards for!  I absolutely LOVE the florals Crackerbox & Suzy Stamps has, so I grabbed a favorite and my colored pencils and decided to do some more no-line coloring.

I haven't used my colored pencils in a while, and I am pretty sure they were feeling neglected! I used Prismacolor Premier pencils on this project and couldn't have asked for a better outcome!  I started by stamping my Peony lg. stamp using some no-line coloring ink on Kraft cardstock.  Then I grabbed some colored pencils and started coloring.  I like working from dark/shadows to light/highlights best, and start out with a light application of pigment, and add layers.  Generally it will take 2-3 times of adding layers for me to achieve a blend I am happy with on my pencils.  The kraft colored paper really added some depth to the image as a whole in my opinion!

After I was done coloring, I fussy cut my peony and set it aside to work on my background.  For my background I used the beautiful Wood Slice stamp and Versamark ink to create a tone-on-tone background.  I then cut a 1.5" strip of vellum and wrapped it around the bottom third of my background panel.  I stamped my sentiment onto Kraft cardstock as well in the Versamark ink to keep the color palette the same.  My sentiment was partially stamped from the Your Day stamp, as I didn't have a Mother's Day specific stamp in mind for this card!  I love stretching my supplies in unique ways though!  I matted the sentiment strip and the top and bottom of the background panel with a light purple cardstock as well to help tie in the purple peony.

Lastly I adhered my peony to my card using wet adhesive.  I had considered popping it up with some foam tape, but chose to keep it mail-friendly and flat so I can pop it in an envelope and mail it for Mother's Day.

Does you have a flower that reminds you of your mom?  I would love to hear about it in the comments below!
